“GORTYS EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL” was created with the sole purpose of bringing Cretan olive oil into contact with every person on earth, highlighting its quality characteristics.
Our love for the olive tree, a cornerstone of Greek culture, has led our family for three generations to the optimal cultivation of olive trees in order to produce a top quality olive oil, organically grown of the “Koroneiki” variety.
In our logo, an attempt was made to link the olive tree with the culture of Crete, one of the first cultures to develop in Europe, and the inspiration was given by a centuries-old olive tree in the archaeological site of Gortyna, next to the Temple of Apollo, which has embraced two columns, one at the base and one between the two strands that make it up.
The double-stranded olive that is indented inside is combined and imprinted at the same time of the two columns, the head of the Minoan bull while a seven-stringed lyre is clearly described, in honor of Thalitas (8th century BC), the lyric poet who was the first to use a seven-stringed lyre and who came from the ancient city of Gortyna.
Finally, twelve olive leafs are depicted on each side as many as the surviving marble columns on which the legislation of Gortyna was written and whose font was used with a slight modification to represent the name ” ΓΟΡΤΥΣ “.
